Spring Weather Brings Out Stateliners

The warmer temperatures are finally here to stay. Whether it was taking a stroll along the Rock River or visiting local sites,  residents took full advantage of Sunday’s sunny skies.

“[It’s] awesome, I’m very excited,” said Rockford resident Amanda Keister. “[Now, I’m] not stuck in the house all the time.”

But with snowfall earlier just this month, some residents say the wait for winter weather to finally leave was less than fun.

“[It was] dreadful,” said Rockford resident Jacob Johnson. “I didn’t know if we’d see this until June but it’s here now so I’m thrilled.”

Plenty of four-legged friends enjoyed the nice weather, too. Robert Luepkes says he’s been waiting for the wintry weather to pass so he and his pup can take a stroll along the river.

“It’s been crazy” said Luepkes. “Last year, it was in the 80’s at this time and just a couple weeks ago now we had snow. It’s been some crazy weather this year.”

“Oh it has been so long and coming,” said Rockford resident Beverly Broyles. “I’m so excited. To think a week and a half ago we had snow.”

Ja’rel Mitchell spent his sunny Sunday taking his scooter out for some tricks. But, this little resident says he didn’t mind the late start to spring because it meant making more snow angels.

“It kept on snowing,” said Mitchell. “When it would stop [then] it would snow again.”

Broyles says now that even warmer weather is on it’s way, she can confidently put away her winter coat — and join residents in all that the City of Rockford has to offer.

“I live just across the river so I know I’ve seen people out on the Auburn Street bridge, jogging, walking and riding their bikes. It’s an active community and we just love this weather.”
