‘Spruce Up Day’ brought hundreds to Veterans Memorial Circle to plant flowers

Over 200 volunteers came out to revamp the North Main and Auburn roundabout in time for spring.

The ‘Spruce Up Day’ event at the roundabout, also known as the Veterans Memorial Circle, was created in an effort to bring more color to the street and to show the veterans in Winnebago County that the residents appreciate their service.

Next Saturday, it will be rededicated to the veterans during a special ceremony at 3:00 p.m.

Even though the work Saturday may have caused minor traffic delays, Ernie Redfern, Co-chair of Spruce of Day, says you’ll see the results of the hard work when the flowers bloom this summer.

“With the way we planted things, you may not see it tomorrow, but by the end of July, you’re really going to see the full effect of this going on into the mid part of July going on into the summer,” Redfern said.
