From Rockford’s iconic parade to the many places to get green beer and corn beef, the Forest City is one for those trying to strike their luck of the Irish.
“Honestly this place is packed walk to walk. And between saturday and sunday this place will be packed.” Said Morgan Northrup, the Bar Manager at Hope & Anchor Irish Pub.
Although the Rockford streets are silent now, they’ll be filled with people decked out in shamrocks and kelly green next Saturday. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins on 7th street and ends at Praire Street Brewhouse. The festivities bring out thousands ready to celebrate.
“Everyone for that one day is family happy, they got a song. There’s a bounce in their step. It’s day that everyone is a little Irish.” said Dennis Nelson, a patron at Hope & Anchor.
In Loves Park, a one of a kind Guiness tasting at Hope and Anchor followed by live music.
“On Saturday the 16th, we are going to have guiness out here doing a sampling. From 6pm to 8pm we are doing sampling of Guniness 200 and Guiness Stout.” Said Northrup, “at 8pm we will have Screw City out and they are a Celtic rock band.”
And of course enjoy an Irish meal.
“A traditional corn beef with carrots and tomatoes cabbage and the corn beef.” said Northrup.
Irish pubs across the city will be packed with patrons like Eric Long, who travel just to come here.
Their favorite part about St. Patty’s Day, “having a tasty reuben. There’s not a better one here in the city. Hopefully a little tellamore dew on the rocks and a guiness.” said Long.
And remember, the favorite mantra for the holiday.
“Everybody is Irish on St. Patrick’s day.” said Long.
