Illinois State Police will increase the amount of officers they have out on state roads for the upcoming Super Bowl weekend. The officers will be targeting drivers committing crimes involving the “fatal four.” That includes DUI, speeding, distracted driving and seat belt compliance.
Last year, ISP issued 1,744 “fatal four” citations statewide on Super Bowl weekend, 195 of which were alcohol-related arrests. They also responded to two alcohol-related crashes, that resulted in two deaths.
ISP reminds those drinking on Sunday that if you drive impaired, expect to be pulled over. As always, they encourage anyone planning to drink to designate a driver.
