A local girl receives an impressive award as Illinois’ “Volunteer of the Week.”

Byron resident Victoria Kuzlik, who started the “Coats for Hope” coat drive back in 2015, received the recognition from Senator Steve Stadelman on Tuesday.

She collected well over 15,000 coats for residents impacted by domestic violence locally. Victoria says the recognition motivates her to keep giving back, building on her high hopes for 2017.

“For next year we have a partnership that might match our funds dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000,” explained Victoria.

She fell short of her monetary goal for this past year, but is still accepting donations. If you’d like to donate, visit her website CoatsforHope.org.
