STATELINE STRONG: Freeport Woman Creates Platform to Help Non Profits, Companies ‘THRIVE’

News

Tucked inside a small office in Freeport, Nicole Sdao types up her future while sitting below where it once was.

“I’m a chiropractor by degree,” explained Sdao. She and her husband own Freeport Chiropractic, but it’s on her red laptop where Nicole is now massaging a new idea.

“Literally our name is our mission,” laughed Sdao. It’s called NonProfitTHRIVE. Sdao quit life upstairs in the clinic, and launched a website from the basement nearly three years ago. It connects volunteers with non profits for free.

“We’ve got over 700 volunteers registered on the site. We’ve got 90 non profits on the site and that’s for the areas of Freeport, Rockford and Belvidere, so we’re here,” said Sdao through a smile.

Metlife Auto and Home is right across the street from where Sdao is set up, and executives there are taking notice of the online platform. Carol Anderson met with Sdao and said Metlife is exploring a partnership with NonProfitTHRIVE.

“One of the things I hear from associates all the time is, ‘Id like to do more, but I don’t know where to go,’ or ‘I don’t know how to do more.’ NonProfitTHRIVE really addresses that concern on behalf of employees,” said Anderson, Metlife Home and Auto.

The site offers data that companies can purchase to help track employees volunteer hours.

“Our presence and our reopening in the Freeport community has been a great opportunity for us to do some outreach and understand what’s going on in terms of non profits,” explained Anderson.

Sdao’s quest to be the best non profit platform doesn’t stop locally. She hopes NonProfitTHRIVE gets clicks from across the country.

“I would like to see it be the gold standard of verifying volunteer hours,” Sdao said. “We don’t have that currently so NonProfitTHRIVE can set the bar for that and our region can be the reason why, and I think that’s really cool.”

Sdao hopes that her humble beginnings in a small office lead to big things with support from the community and from up above.

“It’s not about me. There is a greater power in this and that’s who I give it up to,” said Sdao.

The Freeport Chamber of Commerce awarded NonProfitTHRIVE as the “Start-Up of the Year” at its annual dinner, Thursday night.
