A local hospital is giving a big thanks to a Rockford man who’s given so much to lend a helping hand.
OSF awarded Pat Gendron two volunteer service awards Wednesday. He’s racked up more than 4,000 hours at the hospital. Gendron starts every Thursday morning escorting patients, greeting visitors, and making them feel welcome. He says he’s just happy he can help brighten someone’s day.
“It made me feel a little more compassionate towards people and seeing that people are a whole lot worse than I am,” said Gendron. “I have my problems, but everybody does.”
Gendron says his wife inspired him to first help out at the hospital. He’s been volunteering now for more than 20 years.
