Statue of Abraham Lincoln arrives at presidential library in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTVO) — A 31′ sculpture has a new home at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield.

It’s called “The Return Visit,” and it arrived at the library this morning.

The artwork has been on display in cities like Chicago and New York.

Groups of onlookers gathered to watch as the 19 ton sculpture was installed on Wednesday.

The sculpture features President Lincoln and a modern man holding the Gettysburg Address.

“The presence of it stands out for itself,” said Springfield Tourism Director Scott Dahl. “But, having the modern man holding a copy of the Gettysburg Address, there is one of five copies of the Gettysburg Address right here at the Abraham Presidential Library and Museum, so to tie those in is perfect.”

Springfield is home to more historic Lincoln sites than any other U.S. city.

The sculpture will be on display for a year and a half.
