A driver sped away from a McDonald’s in downtown Rockford with a man hanging onto the car, which then crashed and flipped over a few blocks away, according to police.

Rockford Police were called to the 700 block of E. State Street on Sunday afternoon, for a hit and run incident.

Officers say they learned that the incident started at the McDonalds at 1000 E. State Street around 2 p.m., when a black male was talking to the driver of a silver car, which then took off at a high rate of speed with the man still hanging on.

The car lost control, crashed into two parked cars, and rolled onto its side.

Police say both the Hispanic male driver of the car and the black male both fled the scene.

Police also say the car was reported stolen out of Beloit.

There were no injuries reported and no one is in custody.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Rockford Police at 815-966-2900 or Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.
