Store Employee Stops Attempted Robbery While Held at Gunpoint

An employee’s quick actions prevents a man from robbing a Rockford cash store.

Police responded to The Cash Store in the 1100 block of E. State Tuesday evening after employees there reported an attempted armed robbery. A worker said she was leaving after her shift when she was approached by a suspect.

The man displayed a handgun and demanded the employee take him inside the store. When she got another worker to unlock the business’ door for her, she entered, but slammed the door behind her, leaving the suspect outside. He then fled on foot.

There were no injuries.

The suspect was last seen running north on Longwood with a second suspect who appeared to be acting as a lookout.

The suspects are described as follows;

  • Suspect #1 – black male, late 20s to early 30s, 6’2” and 200 pounds
  • Suspect #2 – black male, 20 years old, 5’10” and thin build.
