Students apply for first-time jobs with the City of Rockford

Dozens of Rockford area students turned up Friday afternoon for a job fair at City Hall to make their pitch in the hope of landing a summer job or internship.

The city is looking to fill a few positions, so are the Winnebago County Forest Preserve, Burpee Museum, and the YMCA, among others.

The city’s HR coordinator, Brittany Kurtz, says applicants also learned a thing or two about networking. “I’ve seen someones’ first resume that they’ve made. So, that was really neat for them,” she says. “They asked a lot of questions. They didn’t know what a job fair was and how to really move along and ask questions about the position.”

Many applicants were interviewed on the spot.
