A national tax study group finds that Illinois has the 7th highest sales taxes in the nation.
On average, Illinois’ state and local sales tax rate is 8.65%. Rockford’s are even higher than that. The highest are in Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, and Washington. However, all of those states are considered to be lower taxing states than Illinois. Two of them have no income tax at all.
