On February 19, we will enjoy a view of our second supermoon of the year.

The full moon on Tuesday night will be the largest and closest supermoon of 2019.

A supermoon is a full or new moon that coincides with the point when the moon is closest to Earth in its orbit (perigee). The moon on Feb. 19 will appear 7 percent larger and 15 percent brighter than usual.

The modern definition of a supermoon is a full or new moon coming within 90 percent of its closest position relative to Earth during the year.

The Snow Moon will be 221,681 miles away in its nearest orbital approach to Earth on Feb. 19. This is about 30,000 miles closer than the most distant approach in 2019.
