One of Ireland’s most popular exports is beer, and Rockford is one of just six cities in the country that combines beer with charity to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Representatives from the Shamrock Beer Run 5K join Eyewitness News Anchor Nekia Nichelle to discuss this weekend’s event.
Five local brewers are coming together to support the beer run on March 16th. Runners have a 3 oz. sample of beer waiting for them at every kilometer throughout the race and a cold pint at the finish line.
The race stresses fun and supporting local businesses, so there will be no official timing throughout the race and walking is encouraged.
All proceeds from the race go towards the Nikolas Ritschel Foundation, which provides funding for young adults fighting cancer.
