The business and consumer website Wallethub.com has done an analysis of the how ‘Family Friendly’ Illinois cities are, and then ranked 162 of them.
In its report, ‘2016’s Best & Worst Cities for Illinois Families’, the website used 21 key indicators of what they believe makes an area more friendly for families, such as violent crime, affordable housing, and even criteria such as playgrounds per capita.
Rockford ranked lowest of those Stateline cities analyzed, ranking 149th out of 162.
Communities which surround Rockford, however, did not fare much better. The highest rated Stateline-area city was Sycamore, which came in at 74th. Machesney Park was 80th, ranking high in education and safety but low on family life and fun. Every other Stateline community ranked well down the list.
Morton had the highest overall ranking of Illinois cities, East St. Louis the lowest.
