A man is in police custody after allegedly threatening and robbing a woman in a church parking lot.

The female victim said she was outside St. Paul Lutheran Church on Locust Street around 11:30 Sunday morning when she was approached by the male suspect. He reportedly told her he’d shoot her if she didn’t give him her purse.

The man fled on foot, but the victim was able to give police a detailed description of him.

Later Sunday evening, officers investigated reports of two people trespassing inside an abandoned house in the 700 block of Cherry Street. When they arrived, they found a man and woman inside. Officers noted that the man matched the description of the suspect from the robbery incident earlier in the day.

As a result, Thomas Ridenbaugh, 33, of Rockford, was placed under arrest and charged with robbery. The woman he was with was released without charge.
