Suspect in February Beloit murder arrested by U.S. Marshals in Texas

Police in Texas have arrested 38-year-old Jacob Davenport in connection with the murder of James Tomten in Beloit on February 9th.

An arrest warrant was issued for Davenport on Friday, according to the Beloit Police Department. He was arrested on Saturday with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals.

According to the Beloit Police Department, witnesses reported seeing Tomten slumped inside a beige Cadillac Escalade in the 800 block of Vine Street around 2:38 p.m on Saturday, February 9th.

Police believe Tomten, 28, was shot 12:20 p.m. in his car, just southwest of the 4th Street and Portland Avenue intersection. The car rolled to a stop and into a snowbank, where it sat running for several hours until police were called.

Police believe Davenport was a passenger in the vehicle. 

Police say Davenport was seen with Tomten at a business on the East side of Beloit, prior to the homicide. 

The investigation is ongoing.
