Defense attorneys in the Luis Anaya murder trial contend prosecutors have no physical evidence to connect him to the shooting death of Brandon Wright.
Someone shot and killed Wright in 2011 after he left a Rockford bar. Prosecutors claim the shooting was a case of mistaken identity. They say Anaya thought Wright was someone else after an altercation outside the bar, followed him in a vehicle, and shot and killed him.
Anaya’s defense attorney argues he fled to Mexico after a warrant was issued for his arrest because he was afraid he’d be prosecuted for a murder he didn’t commit. He was eventually arrested and extradited.
The case could go to the jury as early as Wednesday.
