Sycamore Army recruit hopes to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics

SYCAMORE, Ill. (WTVO) — A Sycamore woman is training to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Lake Kwaza is a brakeman for the two-woman bobsled team.

She’ll be the person pushing from the back of the sled at the beginning of the race, who stops the sled at the end.

Kwaza joined the Army last month as a wheeled vehicle mechanic.

“My ultimate goal is, obviously, the Olympics,” she said. “So, 2022 is what I’m aiming for, right now. I just want to be the best. I want to be the best bobsledder and that’, I guess, a cliched goal, but that’s a goal.”

After completing her Army training, Kwaza will spend time training with the Army bobsled team, going to competitions and doing community outreach.
