A workers strike at a Pecatonica food products supplier enters its third day.
Nearly 100 angry and vocal bay valley foods union workers demand a new contract. They’ve been in talks with the company since July. The union says it’s fighting the company on pension funding, benefits costs, and job preservation. One striking worker says it would be dangerous if bay valley brings in replacement workers.
Chuck Murdoch of Teamsters Local 754 said, “It is very dangerous work. If they bring in people here who can not do this work the way our members do, it could be an explosive situation. That tower over there in 1979 blew up because they didn’t have the right people operating. So, this is a very serious situation.”
The two sides are set to meet again next month, but Murdoch says demonstrators will stay out there for as long as it takes.
