A 17-year-old boy is in police custody after they say he robbed three local residents at gunpoint after agreeing to buy items from them they were reportedly selling on a mobile classified app.

The robberies took place between November 30 and December 5, all on the city’s east side, according to Lt. Kurt Whiseand with the Rockford Police Department’s Investigative Bureau. Two victims reported the robberies happened at an agreed upon meeting location in the 700 block of Coolidge Place, while a third suspect reported being robbed in the 1700 block of Lynnwood Street.

During all three incidents, the victims met up with the suspect who approached them, displayed a handgun, and took the item they had for sale. None of the victims were injured.

A follow-up investigation by police led to the 17-year-old suspect being identified. On Tuesday, he was placed under arrest and charged with three counts of armed robbery. His name is not being released due to his age.

The name of the mobile classified app used to conduct the robberies was not released.
