Teens arrested for breaking into car in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police SCOPE officers found two teens trying to open several cars in the 1300 block of Elm Street.

It happened early Wednesday morning, around 1:30 a.m.

Police say the 16 and 17-year-olds were able to get into one of the cars and take items of out it.

SCOPE Officers tried to stop them but the teens ran off. They were both found hiding a few blocks away in the 100 block of Hinkley Avenue and taken into custody.

The 17-year-old female was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and the 16-year-old male was released to a parent.

Both are charged with burglary to a motor vehicle.
