The List: Flooding causing closures of Stateline-area roads

As the stateline prepares for what may be the highest flood levels since 1975, police are asking motorists to avoid the flooded areas and to not drive around barricades. 

ROCKFORD PARK DISTRICT: 

  • Areas closed between the YMCA through Auburn Street underpass: 
  •     Rockmen by Swan F. Anderson Building
  •     Sea Scout and Symbol Areas
  •     Auburn Street Underpass
  • Shorewood Park/Rock River Recreation Path: Closed — 5100 East Dr, Loves Park
  • Martin Park/Rock River Recreation Path: Closed
  • Aldeen Park: Closed — 623 N Alpine Rd, Rockford
  • Blackhawk Park: Lower Area of Park Closed. — 101 15th Ave, Rockford
  • South Park: Boat Launch Closed
  • Mercyhealth Sportscore One: Rock River Recreation Path from Parking Lot to Harlem Rd, including Boat Parking Lot, Soccer Center, and Baseball Parking Lot are all Closed.
     

FREEPORT:

As of now, the areas deemed not accessible due to high waters including Henderson Road, Hancock Ave and Stephenson St east of Honeywell.  
 

STEPHENSON COUNTY:

  • Brush Creek between RT 26 and Bellview Rd
  • Cockrell Rd South of Cedarville Rd
  • Maize Rd East of Farwell Bridge Rd
  • Becker School Rd between Bolton Rd and Hamm Rd
  • Beaver Rd between Scheider Rd and Red Oak Rd
  • Richland Rd between Red Oak Rd and Scheider Rd
  • Irish Grove Rd between Brick School Rd and Winneshiek Rd
  • Goeke Rd between Cedarville Rd and Brick School Rd
  • Maize Rd between Kinney Rd and Goeke Rd
  • Brick School Rd between Bouray Rd and Farwell Bridge Rd
  • Kinney Rd between Brick School Rd and Winneshiek Rd
  • Van Buren Rd off of RT 26
  • Lancaster Rd
  • Bower Rd between Sabin Church Rd and Loran Rd
  • Mill Grove Rd Sabin Church Rd and Loran Rd
  • Loran Rd between Mill Grove Rd and RT 73
  • Schuman Rd between Loran Rd and Block Rd
  • Winneshiek Rd between Cockrell Rd and Harlem Center Rd
  • Cockrell Rd from Cedarville Rd to Scioto Mills Rd
  • Iris Hill Rd from Winneshiek Rd to Cedarville Rd
  • North Fawver Rd at East Fawver Rd
  • Baker Rd at Kerlin Rd
  • River Rd from Farwell Bridge Rd to Kinney Rd
  • River Rd from Rock City to Shockey Rd
  • RT 75 coming into Freeport onto Stephenson St
  • Bridge St (Winslow Rd) and RT 73 in downtown Winslow have water over both roadways and is closed
  • Cherry Hill Rd West of the Village of Ridott

WINNEBAGO COUNTY:

  • Harrison Road          IL 75 to Hartlien Road near Harrison in Winnebago County. Closed due to flooding
  • Tower Road              IL 75 to Tower Road near Freeport in Stephenson County. Closed due to flooding. Detour set up over US-20 W to IL-26 S.
  • Winslow Road           IL 73 @ Bridge Street in Winslow in Stephenson County.  Closed due to flooding

Below are the current river levels.  It’s important to remember that the forecast will likely change as additional rain falls within the river basin, as well as with any additional rain or snowmelt that may occur further upstream. 

Pecatonica River:
Freeport: Currently in moderate flood stage at 15.31ft – Forecast to crest at 17ft (major flood stage) late Monday/Tuesday

Shirland: Currently in moderate flood stage at 15.1ft – Forecast to crest at 17.5ft (major flood stage) late Sunday/Monday

Rock River:

Dixon: Currently in minor flood stage at 17.22ft – Forecast to crest at 17.8ft (minor flood stage) late Friday/Saturday

Byron: Currently in major flood stage at 16.03ft – Forecast to crest at 16.4ft (major flood stage) late Friday

Latham Park: Currently in moderate flood stage at 12.41ft – Forecast to crest at 14.5ft (major flood stage) late Monday/Tuesday – *the forecast for this point along the river is expected to crest over the record crest of 14.3ft*

Rockton: Currently in moderate flood stage at 12.58ft – Forecast to crest at 15.4ft (major flood stage) late Monday/Tuesday – *this crest will come close to the record crest of 15.5ft*

Kishwaukee River:

Belvidere: Currently in moderate flood stage at 10.27ft – Forecast has it cresting down will decreasing levels through the weekend

Perryville: Currently in minor flood stage at 15.4ft – Cresting now with decreasing levels through the weekend
