A third man has been arrested in the July murder of William Hines in Freeport.
Darrell Thompson, 20, of Freeport, was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with two counts of first degree murder. Earl Fane and Bryan Ulmer were previously arrested for the same offense and are currently awaiting trial at the Stephenson County Jail.
Police say Hines was shot and killed back on July 30th after a drug deal went wrong at a housing complex in the 600 block of East Crocker Street.
Freeport Mayor Jim Gitz heralded the work of detectives in finding and arresting Thompson.
“Obviously an arrest is only the first step in bringing justice to William Hines’ murder,” said the mayor. “Now it is up to the court system to determine guilt or innocence of those charged.”
