ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO — Rockford Police say a tip led to the arrest of fugitive Jacob Vereecken, 27, early Friday morning.

On Friday, April 26th, shortly before 7:30 p.m., Rockford Police were called to the 800 block of Mattis Avenue where they met a 26-year-old victim who said she had been battered and strangled by Vereecken.

The woman was able to escape and was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, May 3rd, officers were tipped off that Vereecken was at a residence in the 1500 block of Jackson Street. Police say he was taken into custody without incident.

Vereecken was charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery and Unlawful Restraint.

In April of 2018, police officers swarmed a house on the 500 block of Brooke Road on a tip that Vereecken may have been inside. He was wanted on a parole violation and was apprehended a few days later.

Vereecken is a known gang member, according to police.

Vereecken was imprisoned for armed robbery to the Red Roof Inn on E. State Street on August of 2010.
