One Beloit father learned the hard way that you can’t take your eyes off a toddler after police knocked on his door with the baby in hand.

Saturday afternoon, a 2-year-old was found near the intersection of Portland Avenue and McKinley Avenue, just south of where Liberty Avenue and South Madison meet.

The father put a movie on for his child and took a shower. The toddler found his way to the door and out of the house.

Neighbors grabbed the boy, who made it three houses away, and called the police. Authorities brought him home without incident.

Police encourage parents to install high locks to keep adventurous children from slipping out.
