Top Girl Scout cookie sellers of northern Illinois face off in baking contest

News

This year’s top Girl Scout cookie sellers across northern Illinois were recognized for their hard work at Camp McCormick in Stillman Valley.

Saturday’s celebration recognized Girl Scouts who sold 500 or more boxes of cookies in northern Illinois.

The celebration featured a cookie bake-off contest with gourmet desserts made from some of the Girl Scouts’ famous cookies.

Eyewitness News reporter Brett Brooks was one of the lucky judges of the contest and got to taste their creations.

Officials say it’s not easy selling so many cookies and Saturday was a way of showing appreciation for the hard work put in.

“It’s part of what they earn as far as celebrating their hard work and having a great day, having fun with their leader, with their parents” said Debbie Karner, Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois. “It’s a lot of work and these girls, especially to sell 500 boxes, put in a lot of work to get to that point and we want them to be able to celebrate and enjoy.”

First place went to Sarina G. from Stevenson County’s Troop 5047 with her toffee cheesecake and salted toffee ice cream.
