The tragedy in Las Vegas has prompted U.S. Senator from Illinois Dick Durbin to push for more gun control laws.
Durbin wants to pass a universal background checks bill. He agrees that these types of incidents can’t always be prevented, but says making it harder for people to get guns is a start.
“I don’t believe someone should be able to walk into a gun show, buy a gun, or multiple guns for that matter, and take them out the back door without someone asking, ‘who are you?’,” Durbin said.
Critics argue that a universal background check database wouldn’t work and that people could still buy guns off of the black market.
