Trapped residents rescued from DeKalb apartment fire

Four people were rescued by firefighters from an apartment fire in DeKalb early Wednesday.

The fire occurred in the 800 block of Ridge Drive. The DeKalb Fire Department arrived to find heavy smoke and heat throughout the common hallway. 

Firefighters used ladders to rescue four residents from their apartment windows. None of those evacuated needed medical treatment.

The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is believed to have originated in the apartment hallway. The damage is estimated at $20,000.
