Two arrested after Machesney Park child kidnapped

Two people are arrested in Rockford after police say they kidnapped a child from Machesney Park.

Friday, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 100 block of Gilbert Terrace in Machesney Park.  Deputies learned a child had been taken during a domestic incident.  The mother of the child was struck and sprayed with pepper spray.

Deputies found the suspect vehicle in the area of Fulton Avenue and Fremont Street in Rockford.  21-year-old Markeshia Topps-Gordon was arrested.  Deputies continued to investigate at a nearby home when police say they spotted 34-year-old Darrell Gordon running from the back of the home.  Police say he wa carrying the child.  He was arrested after a short foot chase.

The child was not hurt.

Darrell Gordon is charged with Aggravated Kidnapping, Domestic Battery, and Resisting a Peace Officer.

Markeshia Topps-Gordon is charged with Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Battery.

Both are being held at the Winnebago County Jail.
