A man and woman from Chicago have been arrested after allegedly breaking into several cars in Machesney Park Friday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the area of River Keys estates around 4 a.m. Friday due to some cars being broken into overnight. While casing the area, they found a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway in the 6700 block of Key Largo Drive. The car’s plates came up stolen out of Chicago while the car itself had been reported stolen in Indiana.

A woman, identified as Izalis Morales, 19, of Chicago, was in the passenger seat of the car and taken into custody.

Officers then learned of a suspicious black male running with a black bag in the area. With the use of Winnebago County K9 Deputy Chico, the man was located in a wooded area along railroad tracks off of Bergstrom Road. He continued to run from police after being found, and was eventually taken into custody in a field near Old River Road.

Stolen property was found in the black bag the suspect was carrying.

He was identified as Darvis Dennis, 30, of Chicago. He’s charged with residential burglary, aggravated resisting arrest, possession of stolen license plates and possession of a stolen vehicle. Morales faces charges of criminal trespass to a vehicle.
