Two Freeport men are behind bars after a Grand Jury returned indictments for a 2013 murder at a Shell Gas station.
Police say Hosea Horn, 30, of Freeport, is charged with 16 counts of First Degree Murder, 2 Counts of attempted Robbery, Conspiracy, 2 Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Obstructing Justice. A second man, 27-year-old Michael Daniel is charged with 8 counts of first degree murder, 2 counts of attempted armed robbery, Conspiracy, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon and Obstructing Justice.
They are accused of shooting 30-year-old Adel Ahmed Al-Masmari on May 27th of 2013 at the gas station at 833 S Galena Avenue. Al-Masmari died at the scene.
Both men are being held on $4,000,000 bond. Horn was already in prison for an unreleated crime.
Freeport Police Chief Todd Barkalow stated in a news release, “This has been a long and incredibly complicated investigation. Although it has been over 31 months since this tragic event, this case has never gone cold, thanks to the many tips brought forth by the citizens of Freeport”.
Freeport Mayor Jim Gitz added, “We hope these arrests can be the first step for closure for the Al-Masmari family”.
