Two Rockford-area, record setting athletes headed down to the state capitol on Wednesday, to be honored by Governor Bruce Rauner.
Lutheran’s James Robinson and Hononegah’s Nick Sommer were recognized by the governor, as well as the Illinois Senate, for their historic achievements in high school athletics.
Robinson set IHSA career records for rushing touchdowns, yards and points scored during his four year career at Rockford Lutheran.
Nick Sommer, a sophomore at Hononegah High School, set a national season average bowling record at 252.11.
Both athletes were honored with a proclamation in the Illinois Senate, which was presented by Senators Dave Syverson and Steve Stadelman.
They also got to tour the Capital, they made a visit to the governor’s office and they spent a few hours at the Lincoln Library.
