Two Rockford men sentenced for gun store thefts


ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — 21-year-old Kyland Willis and 21-year-old Martaevien Stevenson were sentenced to federal prison Friday after breaking in to licensed gun stores and stealing a total of 54 firearms.

Willis was charged in two cases and pleaded guilty on June 28th to stealing weapons from a Loves Park gun store on December 15th, 2017. Willis stole 11 guns during that robbery, and then he and an accomplice broke into the same store again on December 27th to steal an additional 13 guns.

Police say the two attempted to break into another Loves Park store on December 26th, 2017.

On January 3rd, 2018, Willis, Stevenson and another individual broke into a gun store in Belvidere and stole 30 firearms. Stevenson admitted to a second attempt to break in again on January 8th, 2018, and a third time on January 10th.

Willis was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.

Stevenson was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
