United Way gets helping hand from Rockford builders

News

The Northwestern Illinois Building Trades Council dontated $5,000 to the United Way’s “Success by 6” program on Monday.

The program efforts focus on reading in early childhood education.

The council raised the money during its annual golf outing in June 2018.

NWIBT says reading helps to build the foundation for its future workers.

“There is a very much important connection between school readiness, ensuring that individuals have every tool. whether it’s arithmetic, adding, critical thinking, and how that leads into careers in the building trades,” said Jake Castanza.

The “Success by 6” initiative puts over 30,000 books into the hands of local children every year.
