A study is out from Business First ranking the 477 U.S. public colleges and universities. The study is based on the latest data from the National Center for Education Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.
Several area Big Ten schools ranked quite high on the survey, including the University of Illinois-Champaign at #8, the University of Wisconsin at #12, and the University of Iowa at #33. The University of Illinois and the University of Wisconsin were the highest-ranked public universities in their respective state.
Other Illinois universities didn’t do as well, but still finished in the top 25%. The University of Illinois at Chicago came in at #67, the University of Illinois at Springfield ranked #77, and Illinois State University came in at #115.
Closer to home, Northern Illinois University came in at #239, right in the middle of the list.
Chicago State and Western Illinois finished well-below the midway point in the survey.
In all, three Illinois universities finished in the top 100, and five finished in the top 200.
