UPDATE: 20-Year-Old Killed in Rockford Shooting Identified

UPDATE (5/8/2017) – The man shot and killed on Sunday has been identified as D’Angelo Kimbrough, 20, of Rockford. An autopsy on Monday confirmed he died as a result of a gunshot wound.

The death remains under investigation by Rockford Police.

UPDATE (5/7/2017, 10:00 p.m.) – The man, shot on Rockford’s southeast side Sunday evening, has died.

The Winnebago County Coroner’s office says the 20-year-old victim was rushed to SwedishAmerican Hospital, but could not be revived.

His identity is not being released at this time.

A shooting on Rockford’s southeast side leaves one man fighting for his life.

It happened at around 5:30 p.m. near Alton Ave. and 18th St. Witnesses tell police the 20-year-old victim was standing at the intersection when a silver car drove past him and someone inside fired shots out the window, hitting him multiple times in the torso. The victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation. We’ll bring you more information as it becomes available.
