UPDATE – The Winnebago County Coroner has released the identity of the body pulled from the Rock River Monday evening.
He is 53-year-old John Ihus from Rockford. The cause of death is still undetermined and remains under investigation. The results of toxicology tests will be available in approximately two weeks.
The Rockford Fire Department along with the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has recovered a body found in the Rock River.
The body only identified as that of a male was discovered at around 5:30pm in the water off of the 200 block of Olive Street. It was retrieved by firefighters using a rescue boat. A fisherman called it in.
