UPDATE: Body Found in Rock River Identified


UPDATE (8:07pm) – The Winnebago County Coroner identified the victim as Todd Griffith, 39, of Roscoe.  He had been reported missing approximately two weeks ago.  Griffith was last seen in the Hononegah Forest Preserve.  An autopsy is pending.

The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has confirmed a dead body has been found in the Rock River in Roscoe.

Deputy Coroner Bill Hintz says the body is of a white, man in his 30s or 40s. The Sheriff’s Department and conservation police discovered the body 15 feet off shore in the 11000 block of Bend River Road, while out searching for a man reported missing several weeks ago.

A driver’s license was found on the body, but a positive ID has not been released. Hintz says they can not yet confirm that it is the body of the missing man authorities were looking for.

There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
