The Winnebago County Coroner has identified the man who’s body was recovered from the Rock River on Sunday, behind the Luther Center in downtown Rockford.
He’s been identified as Ramon Gamboa, 75, of Rockford. He was pronounced dead at 12:11 p.m. on Nov. 11th.
The Coroner’s Office says it is unknown how Gamboa got in the river, but he had not been in the river very long. Rockford Police told Eyewitness News it’s treating the case as a death investigation. However, foul play is not suspected.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
