UPDATE (5/5/16): City officials have decided on a fireworks launch site for this year’s 4th of July show.

Fireworks will be set off across the river from Davis Park near the intersection of S. Madison and Grove St.

Officials tested out a site in the 700 block of S. Main on Wednesday, but decided against the location due to obstructions.

If you hear what sounds like fireworks in downtown Rockford Wednesday, don’t be alarmed.

Officials will be in town testing a new site for this year’s 4th of July show. They’ll test out the 700 block South Main as an option to set off fireworks. The testing will take place between 11:30 a.m. and noon.

Crews will light smoke bombs to conduct the test.

Spotters will be in Davis Park to determine if the location will work.
