UPDATE: Final 2 Suspects Arrested in Shooting Death of 5-Year-Old Boy

UPDATE (2/1/16 9AM);  Beloit Police say the two remaining suspects wanted in connection for the shooting death of 5-year-old Austin Ramos, Jr. are in custody.

The FBI arrested Eric Salazar-Mota and Sergio Ortiz-Raygoza in Storm Lake, Iowa after several tips from the community as to their whereabouts.

Sunday afternoon Storm Lake authorities were alerted by Beloit Police that Salazar-Mota and Ortiz-Raygoza may be in their area. The FBI and state authorities assisting in searching for the wanted men.

A patrol officer eventually located the vehicle the suspects were known to be driving, which was parked and unoccupied. Surveillance was set up on the vehicle until around 11 p.m. Sunday night when the two men were seen returning to their car. As they attempted to drive off, police pulled the vehicle over, and both men were taken into custody without incident.

Ortiz-Raygoza was charged with homicide for the Beloit murder as well as aggravated discharge of a weapon out of Winnebago County. Salazar-Mota was charged with homicide, substantial battery, child abuse and fleeing as well as with a federal warrant for flight to avoid prosecution.

Both are being held at the Buena Vista County Jail in Iowa pending extradition.

UPDATE (1/29/15 5PM):  Beloit Police are releasing more details about how they tracked down the second of four suspects accused of playing a role in the shooting death of 5-year-old Austin Ramos Jr.

18-year-old Hugo Martinez was arrested not long after being identified as a suspect in the shooting during a press conference by police on Thursday evening.

Detectives checked various addresses they knew Martinez to be affiliated with.  While doing so, residents at those addresses gave detectives information on a vehicle Martinez was known to be driving.

Police officers were able to spot the vehicle, pull it over, and arrest Martinez on being a party to homicide charges.  He will be arraigned on Monday.

UPDATE: (1/28/16):  Beloit Police are now calling 21-year-old Eric Salazar-Mota and 23-year-old Sergio Ortiz-Raygoza murder suspects in the death of 5-year-old Austin Ramos Jr.

24-year-old Isaac Williams Torres, who was arrested in McHenry County Tuesday on unrelated charges, is also facing homicide charges. Previously, the three men were considered “persons of interest.”

Investigators also named a fourth suspect in the case, 18 year-old Hugo Martinez. He is believed to still be in the Beloit area.

Chief Zibolski adds that it is possible more people are involved, but his department is currently focused on catching the three suspects still at large.

All three are considered armed and dangerous.

UPDATE:  (1/28/16):  Beloit police have scheduled a news conference for 6pm to discuss an ‘important development’ in the investigation into the shooting death of 5-year-old Austin Ramos.

Police have already confirmed to ‘Eyewitness News’ they have found the red Chevy S-10 they were searching for in connection with the murder.  They also said they have received many helpful tips from the public.

‘Eyewitness News’ will carry part of the news conference live on our ‘Local at 6:00’ newscast.

UPDATE:  Beloit Police say that they have a person of interest in custody for the murder of 5-year-old Austin Ramos. but they are still looking for two more men, whom they consider to be armed and dangerous.

24-year-old Isaac Williams Torres was arrested in McHenry County yesterday on a battery charge. Police had been seeking him in connection to Ramos’ murder, and say he will be extradited to Rock County.

Police are also looking for two more people in connection to the murder of Ramos: 21-year-old Eric Salazar-Mota and 23-year-old Sergio Ortiz-Raygoza.

They both are wanted on felony warrants, with Raygoza’s warrants being a felony weapons charge from Rockford.

Austin Ramos was killed last Friday night. Police say a red Chevy S-10 pulled up to the vehicle Ramos and his father was in and started firing.  Police say it is still unclear who additionally was in the Chevy during the time of the shooting.

Police say all three of the suspects are members of the La Raza criminal gang.

Family members of the young victim were in attendance during today’s news conference and are pleading for justice   “I hope they do catch them and I hope whoever knows anything comes forward and call the police. We just need justice for junior, we really do,” family member Kassandra Martinez told ‘Eyewitness News.’

Police say Austin’s father had past associations with the Latin Kings gang, but they still do not have a clear motive for the murder.

Beloit Interim Police Chief David Zibolski will provide an update into the death investigation of a 5-year-old boy who was shot and killed last Friday.

The update will come at a news conference Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Beloit City Hall Forum.

WCLO, a Beloit radio station, is reporting that a person of interest is in police custody on unrelated charges out of Illinois, and will be questioned regarding the 5-year-old’s death.

Police continue to look for information regarding the suspect vehicle involved in Friday’s shooting. It is described as a maroon SUV.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for support for the boy’s family. It has already raised more than $17,000.

Eyewitness News will have a crew at Wednesday afternoon’s news conference and will provide additional details as they are given.
