UPDATE (3:15pm): The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the teenager killed in a car crash early Monday morning.
He is 16-year-old Drew Crase of Forreston.
The cause of the accident remains under investgation.
A young man reported to be a student at Forreston High School was killed in an early morning crash Monday.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene on Highway 73 just north of the intersection of Highway 72 at around 12:40am. They arrived to find a vehicle laying on its roof in a pond, the car’s driver declared dead at the scene.
Investigators say that it appeared the car was traveling southbound on Route 73 with it drifted off the east side of the road and into a ditch, causing the car to go airborne and flip over, landing in the pond.
Conditions were both icy and foggy at the time, and it is not known how much weather conditions were a factor in the crash.
The driver’s name has not been released until family can be notified. However, school officials did confirm reports to ‘Eyewitness News’ that the victim is a Forreston High School student.
