UPDATE: Lewis Lemon Elementary Lockdown Has Been Lifted


UPDATE (3:50pm):  Rockford police say the shooting happened in the area of Albert Ave. and Mulberry Street about a block away from Lewis Lemon Elementary School at around 2:10pm.

Officers did find several shell casings and at least two vehicles which were hit by gunfire.  There were no reports of any injuries.

UPDATE:  RPS 205 officials say the lockdown at Lewis Lemon Elementary has been lifted.  Students are now being dismissed.


Lewis Lemon school has been placed on lockdown due to police activity after shots were fired nearby.

Police say the investigation of a shots fired call in the 1700 block of Mulberrry Street prompted the lockdown.  They are investigating, but say that there does not appear to be anyone wounded in the shooting.

No word yet on when the lockdown will be lifted.  People including Lewis Lemon parents are asked to avoid the area until the lockdown is lifted.
