“His words were, ‘He killed her’. I said, ‘What?’ [He replied] ‘He killed her. He’s inside, they’re gonna bring him out’.”
A woman describes the moment she learned her next door neighbor, 51-year-old Tammy Hudson, had been murdered inside her Lapey St. home. Hudson’s boyfriend — 47-year-old Jason Guski — is now in custody, charged with her murder and concealing her death.
The neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous, describes Hudson as a quiet, kind personality.
“She moved in next door a little over a year ago, and we talked, said hi, had conversations. And she was gonna help me with the yard sale this weekend, and everything was normal as far as I knew.”
The neighbor says she first noticed something wasn’t right Wednesday night when Hudson’s son came to her home to check on her.
“I heard somebody kicking the door really, really hard. And I looked over, and it was her son, which I didn’t know it was her son at the time, trying to get the back door, and nobody answered.”
That’s when police were called to the scene, officers unable to get inside at first because they needed a warrant.
“Mr. Guski also lived at the residence and had an expectation of privacy,” explained Asst. Deputy Chief Kevin Ogden of the Rockford Police Department. “And at that time also we contacted the State’s Attorney’s office and reviewed the facts known at that point, and obtained a search warrant.”
When officers eventually forced their way into the home, they discovered Hudson unresponsive on the floor with at least one stab wound. Guski was also found unresponsive and transported to a nearby hospital. Witnesses say they believe he may have tried to kill himself before police arrived.
Meanwhile, the neighbor says she remains in shock as she gets ready for a yard sale that Hudson had promised to help her with.
“So I kept thinking about, I’ve been out here working on my tomatoes, getting ready for the yard sale, and walking right by, and here she was, a few feet away from me, passed away, laying there.”
