UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Christopher Peters. Police have not announced any arrests in Peters’ death as of Sunday night.
Loves Park Police investigators go in an out of a home on Park Ridge Road and Sheridan Drive, where a Friday night gathering turned deadly. The home has a broken door and shattered glass throughout the porch.
A neighbor, who declined to be on camera said a wounded man ran from his neighbor’s home to his porch for help. An Eyewitness News source says there was an argument in the home of the incident that resulted in several shots being fired. A 38-year-old man pronounced dead at the scene. The source also says the gunman is in custody.
However, Loves Park police have not confirmed or released the name of the victim or the gunman. Officials brought in K-9 units to survey they area, as well as photos were taken in the kitchen area of the home.
Crime scene tape is wrapped around the entire front yard and a white Cadillac car sitting on the curb including a window possibly shattered by a bullet.
Resident, Moses Baxter, said when he heard the commotion and then saw police lights, he could not believe something like this could happen in his neighborhood.
“Everyone is really low-key, doesn’t really do much.” said Baxter. “It’s always strange you know seeing stuff like this happen.”
The Winnebago County Coroner arrived on the scene around seven in the morning, but is waiting for notification of kin before releasing the names.
