UPDATE: Names of Men Seriously Hurt in Baxter Road Crash Released

UPDATE (10/10/15):  The names of the men seriously hurt in a head-on crash Monday have been released.

36 year old Stanlislaw Mrugala was the driver of the Toyota Tundra truck, and is in critical condition at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.

The driver of the garbage truck, 23 year old Cody Drummer, is in serious but stable condition at OSF St. Anthony medical Center.  His passenger has only minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

UPDATE:  Winnebago County Sheriff’s Investigators at the scene say the crash was a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a garbage truck, both ending up in opposite ditches.

The pickup truck driver was flown to a Rockford hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There were two men in the garbage truck, and the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle.  He was also flown to a Rockford hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.  His passenger was not seriously hurt and is being treated at the scene.

Investigators don’t have any details on how it happened, but say the garbage truck is equipped with a video camera which will be very helpful in re-constructing the crash.

They anticipate that section of Baxter Rd. to be closed until at least 6pm.

UPDATE:  Our crew on the scene now says it appears to be a dump truck which collided with a pickup truck.
