UPDATE (4/11): Rockford Police have identified both the officer in an officer-involved shooting and the woman he wounded in the parking lot of Dick’s Sporting Goods on E. State Street over the weekend.
On Saturday, police say Officer Ben Schuster, a 21-month veteran of the Rockford Police Department, shot 29-year-old Eboney Adams as he was investigating a report of retail theft. Adams was treated for non-life threatening injuries while Officer Schuster was treated for injuries related to being hit by a car.
Details on the series of events which led to the shooting were not released, and are under investigation by the Winnebago/Boone County Integrity Task Force. The officer is on paid administrative leave.
However, Adams has been released from the hospital and charged with Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer regarding hitting him with a car, and is being held on $500,000 bond.
Adams was arrested last June on heroin dealing charges after an undercover sting.
One person is recovering from a gunshot wound after shots were fired in a parking lot on Rockford’s east side.
It happened just after 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Dick’s Sporting Goods on State Street. Police say officers were there dealing when an incident, when someone opened fire. An officer was involved in the shooting.
One person was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The officer was also transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries due to being struck by a vehicle.
