Three people have been hospitalized in Rockford after reports of shots fired.
Authorities say the shooting itself happened around 12:15 p.m. at School Street and Sunset Avenue.
Following reports of that shooting, a Rockford officer witnessed a vehicle at State and Avon driving at a high rate of speed, which then collided with another car before speeding off. The officer continued to follow the vehicle, eventually getting it to stop at School and Kilburn.
Officers say that vehicle was occupied by four people, three of which had been hit by gunfire at the earlier shooting scene. All of their injuries are considered non-life-threatening, but they have been taken to local hospitals.
An investigation is ongoing. No arrests or charges have been issued at this time.
Due to the proximity to the shooting scene, Lewis Lemon went on lockdown for about 10 minutes. Classes have since resumed; all students and staff remain safe.
