UPDATE: Pedestrian Hit & Killed on E. State Identified

UPDATE (7/26/17) – The man killed after being hit on E. State Street has been identified.

He is Antonio Franco, 63, of Indianapolis, Indiana. The Coroner’s Office says he died despite a bystander giving him CPR at the scene, and after all efforts by paramedics when they arrived.

An autopsy is pending. The death is under investigation by Rockford Police.


UPDATE (11:20 PM) – The pedestrian hit by a car on E. State Street in Rockford has died.

Police say the man was hit in the 4600 block of E. State, right outside the Goodwill, between Dawn and Ridgeview. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers are questioning the driver of the car, along with two passengers.

Police say the westbound lanes of E. State will be closed for the next few hours as investigators reconstruct the accident scene. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

The victim is not being identified at this time.

UPDATE (10:38 PM) – Eastbound lanes on E. State Street has been reopened to traffic.  Westbound traffic is being diverted onto Dawn Avenue.

UPDATE (10:35 PM) – Police have blocked off East State Street to traffic.  Drivers are urged to find alternate routes.

A person is hurt after being hit by a car.

The Rockford Police Dept. tweeted around 10pm Tuesday evening about a serious car crash near East State Street and Alpine.  Police are still trying to figure out how it happened.

No word yet on how serious the victim’s injuries are.
